Ilakizhi
Leaves and powders of medicinal herbs are tied in cotton bags and are heated in medicated oil. These bags are used to massage the body. This is especially useful to treat inflammatory conditions, and ailments like spondylosis - spinal degeneration and deformity of the joints.
Pizhichil
Gently heated medicated oil is applied all over the body then accompanied by gentle massage. This is useful in treating neurological disorders, arthritic conditions, insomnia, and anxiety, for example. The Udvarthanam Herbal powder massage is useful in reducing excess body fat and in cases of obesity and cellulities, for example.
Dhara
Warm medicated oil is allowed to fall from a pot through a wick on to the forehead. This treatment is useful in promoting restful sleep and to reduce mental stress, etc.
Njavarakizhi
A special type of rice is boiled with milk and herbs, then tied into boluses in cotton bags. These boluses are again heated in medicated milk and used to massage the body. This treatment nourishes the body, and treats arthritic conditions, for example. The treatment rejuvenates the body and tones up the skin.
Nasyam
Medicated oil or herbal juices are gently poured into the nostrils, drop by drop. This is useful to treat chronic headaches, sinusitis, and shoulder pain, for example.
Vasthi
An enema prepared with a mixture of medicated oil, herbal decoction, honey, herbal paste and rock salt. This treatment is useful in strengthening the central nervous system, and for treating various muscular and arthritic conditions, low back pain, and constipation, for example.
Kateevasthi
Medicated oil is applied to, and allowed to treat the lower back for 30 minutes. This treatment is especially useful for low back pain and vertebral disorders.
Sirovasthi
Luke warm medicated oil is applied to the head with a special cap. This is especially useful to treat facial palsy and vata ailments, for example.
